Wolves Spotlight: Alex Bechard

How did you get started in lacrosse?

I’ve played lacrosse since I was in the Wolves Tykes program. Probably around 12-14 years ago. I got started in lacrosse mostly because my dad played lacrosse when he was growing up and loved the sport, he introduced me at a young age and I never looked back.

How has being a part of the Wolves Lacrosse community influenced your lacrosse journey?

The Wolves lacrosse community is certainly a big reason I still play lacrosse today. I owe a lot to people like Steve Brown and others who gave me an opportunity to play and develop year after year. I’ve also had great coaches and teammates to learn from, and who I still talk to today.

How have you enjoyed your experience at St. Lawrence University?

I’ve been fortunate to have such a great experience at St. Lawrence University. We’ve seen success as a lacrosse team, and the team itself is a great group to be around. Every day at practice or games is a blast. Going to school in New York means I get to have a unique experience as a Canadian at an American school, and it’s been nothing but positive.

Can you share a memorable game or moment from your lacrosse career? Is there a particular highlight or achievement that stands out to you?

My career has been full of memorable moments, but two stand out to me. The first was in my final year playing junior for the Wolves when we swept the Bandits in the league semi-finals. Dartmouth had our number for my entire time in junior and they ended my season multiple times, so getting them back in my last year felt good. The other is at St. Lawrence when we got a bid to the NCAA tournament my second year. We were together as a group for the announcement and we all erupted in excitement. We went out and won our first game of the tournament too.

What advice would you give to young lacrosse players aspiring to play at the University level?

My advice for those looking to continue to play lacrosse in university, particularly in the U.S., would be to make sure you are communicating with coaches. The recruitment process is hectic at times, but being respectful and timely with your communication is very important. There are lots of connections in the coaching circle so presenting yourself well to all coaches can only benefit you in your process.
